Hey Slaw Doggers!

It’s that time of the year again! Save the date for the 27th Annual Paul Sands Memorial Slaw Dog Invitational to be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Cypress Lake Golf Club!

It is hard to believe that it has been 27 years since Paul Sands and I sat on the back porch of Cypress Lake Golf Club and decided to get a group of friends together to have some fun before the holidays by playing golf, drinking some beer, and raising some money for a local charity. We still have some original Slaw Doggers playing and many new dogs. Never did I imagine that our idea would turn into one of the most popular golf tournaments in our area! Yet here we are – 26 golf tournaments, 26 slaw dog dinners, 26 raffles and probably 26,000 drinks later. Cheers to another year!

Last year was another record-setting year thanks to every sponsor, donor, golfer, and volunteer. I am in awe year after year of your big hearts and generosity. Thanks to you, we raised over $ 97,000 for our local youth! Because of you, we were able to donate $29,000 to the Paul Sands REIS Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students from FGCU. $29,500 was given to Blessings in a Backpack making it possible to feed over 100 kids every weekend for an entire school year! Lastly, $19,000 was given to Valerie’s House to ensure no children grieve alone. These kids and their families thank you for your continued support!

By popular demand, we will continue with the shamble format. The golf course has once again gotten better over the summer off-season. Canal banks have been repaired with beautiful white rocks giving the canals an updated and clean look. The third and final stage of our natural areas has been completed with work done on #9 and #12. The golf course shines year after year. Cypress Lake Golf Club takes pride in the golf course conditions by continuing to invest in the course.
